Design Features:
- A rectangular recess runs above the dining table in the same shape. It gives the dining area a clear zone of its own. That helps a lot in open layouts where living and dining share one space.
- A slim black metal chandelier hangs from the centre of the recess. Black on white gives the light a bold look. Its long shape lines up with the table and keeps the view across the room open.
- Cove strips spread a soft glow along the ceiling. The chandelier keeps the brighter and warmer light on the table. Everyday meals and festive dinners both feel cosy under it.
- Gypsum board gives a neat and flat surface around the light. The chandelier is fixed to the concrete slab for safety. Gypsum also resists fire and is easy to paint.
- White and black is a simple pair that goes well with wooden chairs and grey fabric. It works in a compact flat as well as in a large villa.
A recessed tray ceiling works well. Make it a rectangle if your table is long or a circle if it’s round. Another plus with this kind of false ceiling design for dining area spaces is all those chandelier wires go up inside it and you never see them.
Please don’t hang it from the board alone. A heavy light needs a hook or rod that goes into the concrete slab. Think of the board as just a skin. The rod goes through the gypsum false ceiling and the slab is what holds the light up.
Because it pops. People walk in and look at the table first. It gives your interior decoration a modern touch too. Got black handles on the cabinets or a few black photo frames? The chandelier will pick those up and the room starts to feel planned.
Our rule of thumb is roughly 30 to 36 inches between the tabletop and the lowest point of the light. Any lower and you’ll be dodging it to see whoever is sitting opposite you.
Soft cove lights inside the recess plus a few spotlights near the crockery unit work great. Put a dimmer on it if you can. Keep it bright when the kids are doing homework at the table and turn it down when it’s just the two of you eating late.
It is. Walk into almost any new Indian apartment today and there’s a good chance you’ll find recessed dining ceilings. As a new ceiling design idea, it gives the room some depth and you don’t need three or four layers to get there.
Switch it off first. Wipe the frame with a soft dry cloth. A light cleaning of the bulbs about once a month is enough. Skip the water spray on the metal because it can leave marks.
