A Walk Inside Amitabh Bachchan's Home- Jalsa Interior

Updated On: Nov 2, 2023

“Aaj khush toh bohot hoge tum,” because we are taking you around the house of India’s most beloved superstar! Shehensha has rarely disappointed his fans with his performances. The Bachchan Phenomenon which started many decades ago is still going strong. The aura of Mr Bachchan is so captivating that a ten-year-old could open their mouth and look at the grandeur of his personality in awe. The glare of the actor is enough to complete a scene. Bold dialogue delivery even if it's him calling ‘Nandini’ has said so much. The intensity of his demeanour, even when he played Deepak Sharma, Vijay, Auro, Kailash Nath and Don, is superior to the context of the film, yet it finds a way to blend into the story without overpowering the other characters. The films he did in the late ’70s and ’80s are proof of how forward thinking he is. Abhimaan is more relevant than the 1000 films being produced out of India every year.

A household name, Amitabh Bachchan has a resplendent house standing tall in Juhu, Mumbai- Jalsa. The Indian superstar lives there with his wife, one of the most talented actresses of Indian cinema, Jaya Bachchan and son Abhishek Bachchan, daughter in-law Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and granddaughter Aaradhya Bachchan. Jalsa is one of the most recognisable homes in Mumbai. Let's dive into the lavish home of Bachchans.

Jalsa was gifted to Amitabh Bachchan after the success of Satte Pe Satta, in 1982 by Ramesh Sippy as a 'celebration'. He registered Jalsa under Jaya Bachchan's name in the early 2000s. The ultimate King of the Indian film industry lives in Jalsa, Kapol Housing Society, Juhu, Mumbai.

Bombay Darshan is incomplete without stopping in front of Jalsa and taking a picture. There is never a time when you would find the front of Jalsa to be empty. It is always occupied by  Bachchan's fans trying to get a picture with the nameplate or a peak of the family. Jalsa has big opaque gates erected for security reasons but goes well with the exterior of the house. It is almost like a painting, the house. Golden, opulent and serene. The clay roof tiles infuse the earthiness while maintaining the luxury of the house. When Jalsa is lit up at night, it looks nothing short of a palace. His home has several trees and murals of some in glorious pink on the boundary wall. The beige-coloured exterior gives the whole design a stunning look.

Antiques, high arches and traditional touches complete the Jalsa house. The living room of the family is a blend of modern and olden affairs. The combination of materials, colours and paintings make the living room look regal. The carpets against the grey sofa, with traditional arches with intricate designs, silver decorative elements and the huge The Bull painting by Manjit Bawa make the whole interior look like a set of a period drama.

The interior designer has taken inspiration from the history of Indian art and architecture to develop the living room. The green in the living room along with the wood panelling, brass structures and painting inspired by the Tanjore style gives an illusion of being enclosed in a dome-like structure. The family members have collected several antique treasures over the years and have showcased them throughout the house. Both Big B and Abhishek Bachchan have their private libraries where they read, work and conduct meetings. You can see all of Juhu from the top of Jalsa.

Amitabh Bachchan also has a recording studio in his house. The ancient theme of the house is carried across his own room. The vintage wallpapers, cove lights and apex recording equipment sum up this room.

Every Bollywood star owns a home gym and Big B is no exception. He has often posted pictures about working out in his gym. A few years ago he posted one with his grandson Agastya Nanda. His gym has floor-to-ceiling mirrors and state-of-the-art fitness equipment.

The colours of Jalsa translate the colours of the Bachchan family. Most colours inside and outside of the house are muted, pastel shades. The muted green in the living room is a follow-up to the green Jalsa is surrounded by from the outside. The rest of the house has a beige-egg shell colour which seems golden because of the warm white cove lights. These lights not only add luxury to their abode but also are good for the eyes.

The backyard of Jalsa has often been featured on Instagram. Whether it’s Dada Ji playing with his granddaughter or the whole family having tea outside. The backyard is as verdant as the surroundings of the home. It is also the area where the family gets together for all the festivals.

Amitabh Bachchan's house Jalsa is a Sunday gathering spot for many of his fans just to see him wave. This story was captured beautifully by Anurag Kashyap in Bombay Talkies' Murabba. Amitabh Bachchan is one of the greatest actors to have graced the screen. He massively influenced the seventies and the eighties with his angry young man phase and has transcended seamlessly into the role of perhaps, a veteran lawyer; left his practice, a person with progeria, an overprotective father or Guru of an ashram. His acting still impacts his audience the same way it always has. He is nothing but an inspiration for the upcoming generation of actors!
